Psychotherapy
Research indicates that longer term treatments allowing for greater depth and understanding of the individual’s inner world are most effective in providing long lasting positive outcomes. My primary goal as a clinician is to be helpful to my clients. Accordingly, my efforts are tailored to the specific client’s needs. So, although I work primarily with my clients on a long-term basis, there are times when shorter-term work focusing on crisis management is most appropriate and most helpful.
I provide assistance to individuals, couples and groups.
Individual work is growth and change oriented. Couples work is communication-centered, and is based primarily on the research and clinical work of John Gottman. I help coupled partners at all stages of their relationships, ranging from dating issues, pre-commitment and/or pre-marriage counseling to coping with relationship dissolution. Group work is designed to address specific or general issues in a format that promotes cohesion and mutual support and relies on the premise that we are not alone: Others share similar experiences.
Whether doing individual, couples or group work, I teach and encourage clients to utilize practical skills for managing stress and anxiety.
